I got into IT through STEM hobbies in electronics and computer science. Before field work I was running CNC machines in a dental lab and doing board-level pcb solder repair. Simple install or troubleshoot, doesn't matter to me.
I run a 3-node Proxmox cluster with enterprise networking gear at home because I genuinely enjoy this stuff. Eagle Scout, Google IT certified, and my car stays loaded.

Everything rides in the vehicle. Cable termination, power tools, electronics repair, and general hand tools.
Before IT I was running 5-axis CNC mills in a dental lab and prototyping circuit boards at my kitchen table. I still do 3D printing (FDM and SLA) and board-level electronics repair. When a job goes sideways, I don't just troubleshoot software. I know the electronics and circuits too.
3-node Proxmox cluster with a Dell R730xd, HP ProDesk, and OptiPlex. Aruba managed switch, OPNsense firewall, Pi-hole DNS, TrueNAS storage. Most people don't voluntarily rack a 2U server in their basement. I am that guy.
Direct Work, Subcontracting, or Consulting. If you need a tech in Montana I'm your guy!
